With the Farmer’s Market cancelled on account of high winds from when Tropical Storm Erika passed nearby, I found the kitchen devoid of my beloved mangoes for smoothie-making. All of the harvested guavas had been consumed, too. So I thought, how would an apple and watermelon taste in a smoothie? Not too shabby, it turned out! You need the banana for texture and I recommend the key lime (or regular lime or lemon) to add some sour flavor. If you’re using a Granny Smith apple, though, you might want to taste test for tartness before you and the lime jump in with both feet. I used a Fuji apple for this recipe, but I reckon any apple will do.
1 apple, 1 frozen banana, ¾ c seedless watermelon, ½ key lime
Makes: 1 smoothie
- Freeze a banana overnight.
- Peel the apple.
- Pick out any seeds in the watermelon if not seedless.
- Add all in blender or food processor with juice from the key lime.
- Pulse until evenly mixed.
- Serve, eat, enjoy!
